HIBAPRESS – Abdellatif Baraka
The fish market in Agadir port witnessed a noticeable decline in the prices of several marine varieties at the end of this week, after fishing boats resumed their usual activity immediately following the improvement of weather conditions. The abundant quantities that were unloaded contributed to restoring vitality to the market and revitalizing the buying and selling movement.
According to sector professionals, trawlers and line fishing boats returned loaded with a diverse selection of fish, which enhanced the supply within the wholesale market and created noticeable price competition. Although some varieties arrived in limited quantities, their high quality made them highly sought after by local traders.
The market recorded clear price differences according to quality and demand. The price of a large shrimp box reached about 1200 dirhams, while the price of the small one ranged around 700 dirhams. The box of merluza was sold for 1300 dirhams, while the price of rubio was set at 250 dirhams, and cherna at 200 dirhams. As for the sea bream, the price of the large ones rose to 300 dirhams per box, compared to 130 dirhams for the small varieties.
Line fishing boats, which have resumed their activity strongly, also helped in providing distinctive fish such as pagre, which reached a price of 110 dirhams per kilogram, and the seabream at 220 dirhams. The price of a box of merina reached 1900 dirhams, weighing between 36 and 40 kilograms. While the prices of the horse mackerel ranged between 60 and 70 dirhams per kilogram, and the prices of the lalot did not exceed 80 dirhams.
In contrast, traders praised the regulatory measures adopted by the marine fisheries services and the National Office of Fisheries, which contributed to controlling the unloading process and facilitating the sales path, which added new dynamism to the port and enhanced the regularity of commercial activity within it.
