HIBAPRESS – Fez

The results of the legislative elections of September 23, 2026, have redrawn the parliamentary map in the Fez-Meknes region, as the ballot boxes delivered electoral surprises that led to the departure of a number of figures who were strongly present in the House of Representatives during the 2021-2026 legislative term.

The new results reveal notable shifts in several electoral districts within the region, as parliamentarians who previously topped the results of the September 8, 2021 elections failed to retain their seats, while new names and faces emerged and managed to win the voters' trust.

Among the most prominent names absent from the new parliamentary composition is Idriss Ishtiibi, the Member of Parliament for the Socialist Union of Popular Forces party and the Third Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives during the outgoing term, who was considered one of the longest-serving parliamentary figures in Morocco.

Ishtiibi came in fifth place in the Sefrou district, having obtained 4,843 votes, a result that did not allow him to retain his parliamentary seat, thus ending a period of his presence within the legislative institution.

In the South Fez district, a prominent parliamentary experience also came to an end, as Alal Al-Amraoui, from the Independence Party, lost his seat which he held during the previous term, noting that he had headed the Independence and Equality bloc in the House of Representatives.

Al-Amraoui came in fifth place with 4,928 votes in a district where lists competed for four parliamentary seats, thus transferring the representation of the district to other names revealed by the results of the September 23 poll.

In North Fez, the National Rally of Independents party also registered the loss of one of the seats it had won in the 2021 elections, after Al-Tahami Al-Wazzani Al-Tahami failed to return to parliament, having ranked sixth with 2,548 votes.

Al-Wazzani had managed in the 2021 elections to top the district's results under the party's name, after obtaining 9,244 votes, before the 2026 results produced a different electoral scene.

As for the Ifrane district, it also witnessed a change in its parliamentary composition, after Lahcen El-Amoud, a lawyer at the Meknes Bar and a candidate for the Independence Party, lost the seat he won in the September 8, 2021 elections, when he topped the district's results with 23,569 votes.

The Ifrane district was not immune to these transformations, as Abderrazak El-Hashemi lost his parliamentary seat after he had topped the 2021 election results under the name of the National Rally of Independents party.

El-Hashemi had then obtained 19,595 votes, a rate of 38.02 percent, to win one of the two seats allocated to the district, alongside Mohamed Ouzzine from the Popular Movement party, who received 17,400 votes.

These results highlight the extent of the transformation in the electoral map of the Fez-Meknes region between the 2021 and 2026 junctures, as topping the districts in the previous election was not enough to ensure continued presence within the legislative institution, after the ballot boxes rearranged the balance of representation and brought new names into parliament.

Thus, the September 23 poll brought an end to a five-year parliamentary term and opened the door to a new composition that will bear the responsibility of representing the population of the region's districts during the 2026-2031 legislative term.
