HIBAPRESS – Ahmed Al-Masaad
In the framework of proactive measures to consolidate stability and security in public spaces, security services in the city of Oujda have intensified their direct field operations in recent days across various neighborhoods and black spots that have witnessed an increase in assaults and thefts using motorcycles.
In this context, a HIBAPRESS news crew closely observed two security operations. The first encompassed the external vicinity of Mohammed I University, while the second targeted streets and alleys in the Salam neighborhood, areas that have recently seen suspicious movements and assaults affecting a number of citizens and students.
These intensified security operations resulted in the seizure of dozens of motorcycles, which were deposited at the municipal impound lot, as well as the apprehension of several suspects and those involved in traffic and criminal violations.
The reasons for seizure varied, including the lack of legal documents, illegal mechanical modifications to increase engine capacity and speed, absence of license plates, as well as not wearing protective helmets and refusing to comply with the orders of security personnel.
These qualitative security movements come as a swift response to the concerns expressed by the local population, student bodies, and civil society in Oujda, following the increase in smash-and-grab ("snatch") theft incidents, where perpetrators exploit the agility of motorcycles to escape and disappear through adjacent alleys.
Informed sources confirmed that these intensive interventions are not limited to regulating traffic flow and penalizing violators, but extend to constitute a comprehensive preventive plan to dismantle criminal suspicions, dry up the sources of mobile crime, and restore order and tranquility to public spaces.
The security services in the city continue to enhance their field presence by intensifying mobile and foot patrols, with the aim of securing residential neighborhoods and vital facilities and preventing anything that could harm the safety of citizens and their property.
