The Public Prosecutor at the Court of Appeal in Tangier announced the submission of a request for preliminary investigation against two suspects, in provisional detention, on suspicion of their involvement in the felony of violating ballot operations and participating in forgery, as part of the completion of investigations related to the case of embezzlement of ballot papers, which had previously resulted in the arrest of five individuals.
A statement from the Public Prosecution, issued on Thursday, October 1st, explained that additional investigations and technical expertise revealed the involvement of an accountant from one of the companies in marking the symbol of a political party on ballot papers, at the request of his employer, who was inside an apartment in a hotel unit with two other individuals, in possession of two bags containing ballot papers.
The same source added that retrieving the hotel's surveillance camera recordings, which were deliberately erased, showed the presence of the second suspect with the accountant and two other individuals in provisional detention in connection with the case, inside the aforementioned apartment, until they all left. He was accompanied by the person suspected of taking the ballot papers out of the polling station and returning them to him.
The statement confirmed that the recordings showed that it concerned the same two bags that were later seized in the polling stations in question, and the investigations also revealed the presence of the second suspect in the process of bringing ballot papers and marking the symbol of a political party on them.
The results of the technical expertise conducted on the second suspect's phone highlighted his making several phone calls, before and on the day of the election, with two suspects in provisional detention in the same case.
Based on the investigation results, the Public Prosecution decided to submit a request for an investigation against the two suspects in provisional detention, for the felony of violating ballot operations and participating in forgery, emphasizing its follow-up of the investigation procedures and submission of the necessary requests within the framework of ensuring strict adherence to the law.
