The Moroccan Association for the Defense of Consumer Rights has called on all citizens to exercise extreme caution and vigilance in conjunction with the upcoming Eid al-Fitr, which witnesses a significant increase in travel across various axes of the national road network.

This came in a statement by Ali Shtour, President of the Association, which operates under the umbrella of the Moroccan University of Consumer Rights. He gave the statement to the newspaper "HIBAPRESS" and emphasized the need to prioritize a culture of safety to ensure the protection of lives and property during this religious occasion. Shtour Ali clarified that Law No. 31.08, which defines measures to protect consumers, represents the reference legal framework that guarantees citizens' rights to safety and security when using various services, especially transportation services. He stressed in this context that the law clearly emphasizes the need to provide quality and safety conditions and prevents exposing the consumer to any risks that may threaten their life or health, especially in light of the increasing traffic congestion resulting from families traveling to visit relatives. Regarding preventive measures, the statement stressed the need for strict adherence to traffic laws, including respecting the speed limit and avoiding excessive speed, which is a leading cause of fatal traffic accidents. It also urged drivers to take all prior precautions, such as checking the mechanical condition of the vehicle, the safety of tires and brakes, while emphasizing the importance of getting enough rest before setting off to avoid driving in cases of fatigue or exhaustion, and completely refraining from using a mobile phone to ensure full focus on the road. On the other hand, the Association warned of the danger of illegal behaviors that emerge during this occasion, including overcrowding inside public transport and the use of unlicensed transport vehicles, known as "Al-Khattafa," because of the real threat they pose and the flagrant violation of consumer protection requirements. Shtour Ali demanded that the public authorities enhance their security presence and intensify monitoring on highways and main roads, with strict application of the law against violators and those causing road chaos. The president of the Association concluded his statement by calling on road users to embody the spirit of responsibility and citizenship and to prefer patience over speed, embodying the saying "Safety lies in patience and regret in haste," to ensure that the Eid holiday is spent in safe conditions that preserve the dignity and safety of the Moroccan consumer.
