HIBAPRESS – Jerada
Dozens of families (12 families) residing in the "Al-Badr" neighborhood (Al-Harsha) in the municipality of Ain Beni Mathar, in the province of Jerada, continue to raise their demands to the provincial authorities, headed by the governor of Jerada province, for urgent intervention to address what they described as "injustice and exclusion" resulting from the demolition of their homes without granting them the right to benefit from compensation allocated for buildings threatened by risks and floods.
According to the text of a complaint signed by the representatives of the affected parties, the local authorities in the region had, during 2024, demolished the homes of those concerned in the aforementioned neighborhood, based on technical reports classifying the area as threatened by floods.
The affected parties confirmed that the demolition process was carried out based on oral promises and commitments from the municipality of Ain Beni Mathar to include them in the lists designated for benefiting from compensation and alternative housing.
The affected parties added in their correspondence that despite previous commitments, they were surprised by their complete exclusion from benefiting and the closure of dialogue, despite repeated efforts and requests submitted to various concerned parties since December 2024.
The affected parties pointed out that this situation has led to the displacement of entire families and plunged them into a fragile humanitarian and social situation, especially since most of them belong to low-income groups who have spent their savings to build those homes.
The affected families demanded that the governor of Jerada province open an investigation into the circumstances of their exclusion, and intervene with the relevant departments and administrations to grant them their share of the compensation program and alternative housing, in line with the wise royal directives calling for consideration of the social conditions of vulnerable groups affected by natural disasters and climate risks.
