Algerian markets are facing a crisis related to the availability and prices of bananas, amid government moves to regulate supply and ensure product availability, concurrently with price monitoring and curbing market speculation.
The authorities have resorted to importing quantities of bananas from abroad to ensure their availability and reach the Algerian citizen, who tastes this fruit once a year.
Despite the authorities' intervention, the price of a kilogram of imported bananas has reached about 450 Algerian dinars in a number of points of sale, equivalent to approximately 3.35 US dollars.
Despite its high price, the simple Algerian citizen hopes to be able to access and purchase this fruit and not restrict it to a certain segment of the population.
