HIBAPRESS – Oujda
The city of Oujda witnessed this Thursday morning, October 8th, a second protest by families affected by the "Azhar Residential Association" project in front of the Palace of Justice, with the participation of dozens of affected citizens, and in the presence of human rights and civil society activists.
This new stage of struggle comes as part of a series of field protest actions and continuous institutional procedures, due to the material and psychological damages resulting from the severe faltering of the aforementioned project, which was supposed to provide decent housing for dozens of families who had dedicated years of savings for this purpose.
According to the statement issued at the protest, the affected parties stated that their field actions coincided with official notices and clarifications they received last week, confirming that the project in question did not meet the necessary legal licenses and permits in this field. Accordingly, it was decided to resort directly to the judiciary, where a complaint was filed with the Deputy Public Prosecutor, along with a demand petition submitted to the complaints department of the Oriental Region Directorate.
The statement indicated that the case file is now officially before the justice system, as the defendants have been arrested in connection with the ongoing judicial investigations to conduct inquiries and determine the full circumstances of the case.
In this context, the protesters emphasized their full respect for justice and state institutions, asserting that their protest stems from a desire to convey their voice and alleviate the harm they have suffered, without interfering with the judiciary's competencies or issuing premature judgments, expressing their confidence in the independence and integrity of the judicial authority.
The main demands raised by the affected parties are summarized in the following points:
Full disclosure of circumstances: Enlighten public opinion and understand the details of the project's faltering and related circumstances.
Identification of responsibilities and penalties: Impose legal consequences based on the results of the judicial investigations.
Recovery of victims' dues: Return the full amounts and savings invested in the project without any deduction.
Expediting judicial procedures: Process complaints and investigations within reasonable timeframes that protect the social and material interests of the families.
Protection of urban establishment: Implement deterrent controls and measures to ensure that such irregularities are not repeated, protecting citizens' savings.
The statement concluded by emphasizing the continuation of peaceful mobilization and adherence to legal regulations to follow up on the case, calling on all victims and affected parties to exercise caution, not to be swayed by rumors, and to await the decisions and rulings of the competent judicial and institutional bodies.
