On the coast opposite Mahdia, on the morning of Monday, October 12th, a maritime incident occurred involving the sinking of a coastal fishing boat due to a sudden water leak. An urgent rescue operation, involving fishing boats near the incident site, successfully saved all crew members without any loss of life or physical injuries.
According to professional data, the accident occurred after one of the wooden planks forming the boat's hull split, leading to a large amount of water entering the vessel in a short time. Despite the crew's attempts to control the situation by using water pumps, the speed of the leak prevented containment, causing the boat to lose balance and sink. The incident prompted the mobilization of the Maritime Fishing Delegation, the Mahdia Port Captaincy, local and security authorities, and the maritime gendarmerie, who intervened to monitor the situation and receive the surviving fishermen, ensuring their safety. Meanwhile, the competent authorities have initiated the necessary procedures to determine the circumstances and details of the incident.
