HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
The Moroccan Democratic Labor Union has expressed its condemnation of the arrest of university professor Rachid Cherkab, the union's national coordinator, and unionist Abdelatif Sader, in connection with the case related to the Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center in Casablanca, demanding the guarantee of their legal rights and respect for the conditions of a fair trial.
The union clarified, in a statement from the General Secretariat, that the individuals concerned were arrested due to their union and protest activities, considering that the protest vigils organized to express professional demands fall within the exercise of constitutional rights related to freedom of expression and peaceful protest. The statement noted what it described as imbalances in the course of the case, particularly concerning the trial conditions and the handling of complaints related to the file, calling for clarification of its circumstances and ensuring respect for the rights of defense and legal procedures. The union announced its solidarity with Cherkab and Sader, calling on responsible authorities and human rights, union, political, and media bodies to follow up on the case, emphasizing the necessity of addressing professional and union disputes within the framework of the law and institutions.
