Casablanca…seized more than 9.7 million units of explosives and artificial meteors

The elements of the State Service of the Judicial Police of the city of Casablanca, in coordination with the interests of the General Directorate of National Surveillance of the Territory, were able, this Tuesday evening, to seize a total of nine million and 771 thousand (9,771,000) units of explosives and artificial meteors whose use constitutes a threat to the security of people and property.

A report from the General Directorate of National Security indicates that the field interventions carried out in the context of this case resulted in the arrest of two people suspected of being linked to a criminal network active in the smuggling of these prohibited materials from outside Morocco by illegal means and fraudulent methods.

The same source added that the inspections initiated by the judicial police allowed the seizure of these standard shipments of firecrackers and artificial meteors, which are divided between long candles, firecrackers of different sizes and dangerous fireworks, the use of which constitutes a serious threat to the security of citizens and the safety of their property.

The report highlights that the seizures made in this case also resulted in the seizure of three vehicles suspected of being used for the transportation and smuggling of these prohibited shipments.

The two suspects were kept in theoretical custody, while two employees were subjected to judicial investigation procedures carried out under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, in order to uncover the smuggling routes of these prohibited shipments, determine the routes of their illegal promotion, as well as the arrest of all those who participated in their importation and illegal sale.
