A Spanish club has confirmed that Spanish police have detained one of its stars for a period over allegations of involvement in illegal betting.
A Western newspaper reported on Tuesday evening that Kiki Salas, defender of the Spanish club Sevilla, had been briefly arrested by the Spanish police, due to his involvement in a “betting” affair.
Spanish police arrested Kiki Salas at the club’s headquarters, immediately after completing his training, and released him after questioning, with the newspaper reporting that the player faces a sentence of up to three years in prison for fraud.
The Spanish League said it “will ask to join the proceedings as an injured party if the investigation results in a trial”, adding that “every year the Spanish League offers players mandatory workshops on integrity, where these issues are explained and they (the players) are informed about them, so that “they are very clear about what they can and cannot do.”
