An “attempted coup d’état” was foiled on Sunday by defense and security forces in Kinshasa, capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), announced the spokesperson for the Armed Forces of the DRC ( FARDC), Sylvain Ekenge.

“The army assures that the situation is under control and asks the Kinois (residents of Kinshasa) to freely go about their business,” the spokesperson said in a brief message broadcast on public television and reported by the Congolese Press Agency (ACP) on its official “X” page.

He added that several perpetrators of this act had been arrested.

“This attempt involved foreigners and Congolese” who were “all rendered incapacitated, including their leader,” he said.
