Yet another in Africa! For political interference, FIFA can freeze the activities of Cameroon’s clubs and national teams

Recently, an open conflict has emerged between Samuel Eto’o, the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and Narcisse Mouelle Kombi, the Minister of Sports and Physical Education.

The conflict was notably triggered by the decision of the Minister of Sports to appoint the Belgian Marc Brys at the head of the “Indomitable Lions”.

A decision which was contested by the president of FECAFOOT who considers himself the only person authorized to make technical decisions, in accordance with his status as boss of Cameroonian football and did not, therefore, fail to retaliate by sabotaging the gathering of the national team in anticipation of the double confrontation against Cape Verde and Angola, counting for the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

Eto’o is set to file a complaint with FIFA, which will have adverse repercussions on Cameroonian football, which could go as far as freezing the activities of Cameroon’s clubs and national teams for political interference.
