HIBAPRESS – Oujda
The city of Oujda witnessed violent clashes and unprecedented tension this evening, Monday, September 29th, between security forces and protesters, most of whom were young people and students, near Mohammed I University and the university residences.
This escalation comes against the backdrop of protests called for by a group referred to in the media as "Generation Z" in several Moroccan cities. The gatherings began in the vicinity of the university with various slogans, but the situation quickly deteriorated into stone-throwing at public forces, which necessitated the intervention of security forces to disperse the demonstrators.
Results of the Clashes and the Security Situation
The clashes, described as "violent," resulted in injuries among some security personnel, in addition to arrests that affected a number of participants, especially students.
Security authorities have reinforced their presence extensively in the streets leading to the university and the university district, in an attempt to control the situation and restore calm to the area, in light of the authorities' efforts to maintain public security and prevent any potential escalation against the backdrop of the increasing mobilization of "Generation Z" across the Kingdom.
