HIBAPRESS – Shafiq Anouri
An American girl living in Spain expressed her great astonishment at the similarity between a number of Moroccan landmarks and their Spanish counterparts, during a visit she made to the city of Marrakech, according to the "ABC" website.
The young woman, known on social media as "Maddie's Mundo", who is known among her followers for documenting her daily life in Spain, said that she discovered striking architectural and cultural similarities during her tour of Marrakech.
The young woman highlighted, according to the aforementioned Spanish website, in a video she posted on “TikTok” that the Koutoubia Mosque, which is one of the most prominent landmarks of the Red City, is very similar to the Giralda Tower in Seville.
The Spanish website explained that the American girl considered that these similarities were not just a coincidence, pointing out that Marrakech and other Spanish cities share clear architectural and civilizational elements.
The same source confirmed that this similarity is the result of historical overlap that has lasted for centuries between the two countries, due to geographical proximity and historical ties between the two sides of the Mediterranean Sea.
This observation comes at a time when Moroccan tourist destinations are seeking to strengthen their presence among European tourists, especially from Spain, which is one of the most important markets that the Kingdom receives annually.
Observers believe that highlighting this type of cultural links can contribute to attracting new groups of visitors, especially young people who are interested in near and low-cost travel, without feeling a sharp cultural shock.
