Throne Cup Final: Revenge in the air between Raja Casablanca and AS FAR

The eyes of national football lovers will be riveted on Monday on the city of Agadir where the final of the Football Throne Cup (2022-2023 sports season) between Raja Casablanca and AS FAR will take place.

This meeting, scheduled at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir at 5:00 p.m., will take place against the backdrop of a revenge between the Botola champion, Raja, and its runner-up, AS FAR, two great names in Moroccan football, who competed for the title. of the championship until the last day, in a thrilling duel which kept the public in suspense until the end.

If the Casablanca club will be in search of a Coupe-Botola double to end a stratospheric season in apotheosis, the Military will be keen to redeem themselves after the disappointment in the championship which saw them let go of a title which held their arms in the last two days.

The “Green and White”, still undefeated this season, will approach the final of the Throne Cup with high morale, after having won the national championship at the end of an exceptional run punctuated by 21 victories, 0 defeats and 9 draws.

Riding on this confidence, Raja Casablanca wants to continue its winning momentum and add to its list of achievements with a new trophy. The confidence acquired throughout the season has also allowed the protégés of German coach Josef Zinnbauer to make a comeback in the semi-final of the Throne Cup against Mouloudia d’Oujda after being led 3-2. The Casablancais ended up winning by a score of 4 goals to 3 after extra time, showing a winning state of mind and irreproachable determination.

Facing AS FAR, Raja, reigning vice-champion after its defeat last season against RS Berkane 1-0 in the final, is eyeing a 9th coronation in the Coupe du Trône, after those won in 1974, 1977, 1982, 1996, 2002, 2005, 2012 and 2017.

If the “Green and White” win the coronation, they will rise to second place among the most successful clubs in the Coupe du Trône alongside their rival Wydad Casablanca, and behind their opponent in the final, AS FAR (12 titles ).

The military club, in search of a record 13th Coupe du Trône, will, for its part, play everything it can to win a new title in this competition, and chase away the spectre of a blank season.

AS FAR, which reached the final after beating the Maghreb of Fez by 2 goals to 0, hopes to take its revenge against Raja who deprived it of the privilege of retaining its title in Botola, at the end of A brilliant career with 22 victories, 5 draws, and only three defeats.

The military club, which will play its 18th final in the Coupe du Trône, won the title in 1959, 1971, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1999, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2020, and lost five finals to the Maghreb Fez (1988), at Olympique Casablanca (1990), at Raja Casablanca (1996, 2012) and at Wydad Casablanca (1998).

The spectacle will certainly be there in this final which promises to be very tough between two flagship teams of national football.
