HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The parliamentary majority proposed, within a new package of amendments to the organic law of the House of Representatives, to oblige candidates for elections, whether they are on party lists or running individually, to submit a bank document proving they have the funds allocated to finance their election campaigns.
This proposal comes in the context of the majority's efforts to enhance financial transparency and ensure that election campaigns are managed according to clear rules that combat the flow of undeclared funds and limit the manifestations of financial chaos that accompany some entitlements. The majority groups believe that requiring this bank document will help control funding sources and strengthen monitoring mechanisms, especially since a number of political actors had previously warned of imbalances in the management of election campaign expenses.
