HIBAPRESS – Rabat
The Head of Government, Aziz Akhannouch, confirmed in an interview with the Spanish newspaper "Lara-Thon" that the organization of the 2030 World Cup in partnership with Spain and Portugal constitutes a pivotal stage that will strongly contribute to accelerating the economic and social transformation witnessed by the Kingdom under the Royal leadership.
He added that this global sporting event transcends mere football competitions, becoming a strategic project that will enhance Morocco's international position and bring about a qualitative leap in infrastructure and investments. Aziz Akhannouch explained that the preparations for the World Cup come within the context of a major reform dynamic that is reshaping the features of the social state, pointing out that the expected investments in the fields of transportation, sports facilities, tourism, digital transformation, and security, fall within an integrated vision aimed at improving the quality of life and enhancing the attractiveness of the national economy. He also described the joint project with Spain and Portugal as a model of regional cooperation based on trust and the ability to accomplish huge projects with a cross-border impact. On the social side, the Head of Government highlighted that Morocco is witnessing a historical expansion in the social protection system, as more than 12 million citizens benefit from direct support, while health coverage has come to include more than 88 percent of the population, a step he considered a practical translation of the Royal vision for building a cohesive social state. On the economic front, he pointed out that the Kingdom has been able, despite global challenges related to drought and rising prices, to maintain its macroeconomic stability and reduce inflation rates to less than a third of the level recorded four years ago, while stabilizing it below 1 percent over the past three years. He explained that these results came supported by a regular social dialogue that resulted in improving purchasing power through significant increases in wages, in addition to continuing structural reforms in the health, education, and scientific research sectors. Aziz Akhannouch concluded by emphasizing that the 2030 World Cup will constitute an additional driving force for the ongoing reforms, and a lever to accelerate the pace of modernization of basic infrastructure and strengthen Morocco's presence as an emerging power in the region, reflecting the success of the Royal project to build a modern Morocco and a firmly established social state.
