HIBAPRESS – A. Mahyawi
As the curtain falls on 2025, attention turns to the performance review of Governors and Walis who have taken on the responsibility of managing territorial affairs during their tenure, in a national context marked by rapid economic and social challenges, and major development stakes that have necessitated accelerating the pace of reform and strengthening territorial governance.
The year 2025 has been a pivotal point in the management of territorial administration, where the work of Governors and Walis has focused on implementing the High Royal Directives, and keeping pace with major national projects, foremost among which is stimulating investment, reducing spatial disparities, and improving the quality of public services, in addition to preparations related to major international events, headed by the 2030 World Cup.
Varying Administrative and Developmental Performance by Region
The year-end review revealed a noticeable disparity in the level of performance between the various prefectures and provinces, where a number of Governors and Walis were able to give a strong boost to structured projects, especially in the areas of infrastructure, simplifying administrative procedures, and attracting national and foreign investments. In contrast, some regions recorded setbacks in the implementation of a number of programs, either due to funding constraints or weak coordination between stakeholders or the weakness of some officials in management and administration due to their experience in the Ministry of Interior.
Investment and Governance at the Heart of Priorities
During 2025, territorial authorities focused on improving the business climate, by activating regional investment committees, accelerating the review of files, and following up on stalled projects. Good governance mechanisms and accountability were also strengthened, which contributed to raising the efficiency of public administration and strengthening citizens' confidence in the administration.
The Social and Developmental Dimension
The work of Governors and Walis was not limited to the economic aspect only, but also included addressing pressing social issues, such as supporting vulnerable groups, following up on programs to combat school dropouts, and improving access to health services, especially in rural and remote areas.
2025… A Year of Assessment and Foresight
The 2025 year-end review constitutes a basic ground for evaluating the performance of territorial officials during their tenure, and drawing the necessary lessons to improve future work. It also highlights the need to strengthen coordination between the various actors, accelerate the pace of completion, and break with traditional management methods, in a way that is consistent with the aspirations of the new development model.
In conclusion, the year 2025 remains a pivotal year in the path of territorial administration, as it confirmed that the success of Governors and Walis in performing their duties remains contingent on field commitment, the ability to innovate, and good communication with citizens, for just and sustainable territorial development.
