Smuggling of more than a ton of drugs foiled at the port of Tangier

The national security forces, in collaboration with the customs services of the port of Tangier-Med, succeeded, in the early hours of this Saturday, March 16, in foiling an attempted smuggling of more than a ton and 200 kilograms of drugs cannabis type on board an international goods transport truck registered in Morocco.

Border surveillance and inspection operations enabled the seizure of quantities of drugs carefully concealed inside specially designed compartments in the metal structure of the truck. Additionally, search procedures led to the arrest of the driver, a 28-year-old Moroccan citizen.

The suspect was subjected to a judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office in order to reveal all the accomplices in this case, as well as to determine the alleged national and international ramifications of this criminal activity.

This case is part of the intensive and continuous security operations carried out by the various competent authorities, with the aim of combating the international smuggling of drugs and psychotropic substances.
