HIBAPRESS – Casablanca
The authorities of the city of Casablanca began, at the beginning of this week, the demolition of a number of dilapidated buildings in the Boutouil district, which is considered one of the old neighborhoods belonging to the Sidi Belyout district in the Anfa prefecture.
The demolition process caused a state of great dissatisfaction among the affected residents of the neighborhood, due to the absence of any compensation or alternatives in order to provide decent housing and avoid the displacement of families and people who left the housing affected by the decision. The affected said that the authorities requested evacuation 15 days before starting the demolition process, without guaranteeing alternatives for the affected families, some of whom are now facing the specter of homelessness. This process, along with promises of urban rehabilitation, raised questions related to the fate of the population and the conditions of their transfer, in light of demands for the necessity of adopting a humanitarian approach that takes into account the dignity, social and housing rights of the affected.
