Recent data on trade between China and Africa showed that Morocco emerged in 2026 as one of the most prominent African destinations for Chinese exports, ranking fifth on the continent, reflecting its advanced position within industrial supply chains.
According to The African Exponent, the value of Chinese imports to Morocco reached about $2.4 billion, recording an annual growth of 21 percent, which is one of the highest growth rates in Africa. Automotive components, precision machinery, and industrial robots accounted for about 35 percent of these imports, in direct connection with the development of the national industrial system. Electrical systems and building materials also accounted for about 25 percent of imports, in parallel with the expansion of infrastructure projects, while Chinese medical imports amounted to about $190 million, with an annual increase of 25 percent. The report pointed to China's superiority as a major supplier to Morocco compared to the European Union, India, and Turkey, while at the same time drawing attention to challenges related to the risks of excessive dependence, despite the competitiveness of the Chinese offer. On the continental level, South Africa topped the list, followed by Nigeria, Egypt, and Algeria, while the ranking relied on data from 2026 issued by the Chinese Customs and UN Comtrade.
