On February 11, 2026, Zakaria Madian, a consultant for the Istiqlal party in the Al Hoceima commune, addressed a written question to the head of the commune regarding what he described as the "deteriorating condition of road infrastructure" in various neighborhoods of the city.
In his correspondence, the consultant explained that a number of streets and alleys, whether in central areas or peripheral neighborhoods, are experiencing a noticeable deterioration represented by the spread of deep potholes, the widening of cracks, and the erosion of the asphalt layer, considering that this situation is not in line with the status of Al Hoceima as a city with a regional and tourist dimension. He pointed out that the situation worsens even more with each rainfall, where some road sections turn into black spots that impede traffic and cause material damage to citizens' vehicles, as well as the risks that threaten the safety of road users, especially children, the elderly, and motorcycle riders. Madian considered that these imbalances raise questions about the effectiveness of periodic maintenance programs and the extent to which the road rehabilitation file is among the priorities of the communal council, stressing that the maintenance of road infrastructure is a basic indicator of the quality of local management and the guarantee of the residents' right to decent public services and appropriate living conditions. In this context, the consultant demanded clarification as to whether the Al Hoceima commune has a comprehensive and structured program to repair and rehabilitate various streets and alleys, with the disclosure of the expected timetable for the start of the works and the amount of financial allocations allocated for this purpose. He also called for the acceleration of addressing these imbalances and taking practical and tangible measures that would improve infrastructure and respond to the expectations of the residents, which enhances confidence in the work of the elected institutions and serves the public interest.
