Yesterday, Saturday, "Harbin Ice and Snow World," the largest specialized amusement park of its kind in the world, was closed after rising temperatures led to the melting of its ice and snow landscapes.
The organizers said that the 27th season of the famous winter tourist destination, located in Harbin city, the capital of Heilongjiang province in northeastern China, was closed earlier than usual this year due to safety concerns and to ensure a good experience for visitors amidst the melting ice. The organizers explained that the decision comes within the framework of precautionary measures, especially with the increasing number of visitors during this time of year. This winter event is held annually within the events of the Harbin International Ice and Snow Festival, attracting millions of tourists from China and abroad, thanks to its giant ice sculptures inspired by global architectural landmarks, along with artistic performances and winter recreational activities. While the outdoor park is bidding farewell to the season, the largest specialized indoor ice and snow amusement park in the world will open within the "Harbin Ice and Snow World" complex today, Sunday. According to a document issued by the State Council, China aims to boost the ice and snow economy as a new source of growth, looking forward to achieving an economic return of 1.2 trillion yuan (about $174 billion) by the year 2027 and 1.5 trillion yuan by the year 2030.
