On Saturday, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, conducted a field visit to the Larache province, dedicated to following up on a number of water and road projects, as well as evaluating the interventions carried out following the exceptional rainfall that the region witnessed during the past months of January and February.
Baraka, who was accompanied by the governor of the Larache province, Alamine Bouassam, and a number of central and regional officials from the ministry, visited the Wadi El Makhazin dam, where he was given explanations about the management of this water facility during the period of exceptional rainfall and the measures that were taken on the occasion. In a statement on the occasion, the minister highlighted that this dam recorded a record flow during the period of rainfall, reaching 3200 cubic meters per second, pointing out that the joint efforts of the local authorities, territorial officials, and the Loukkos Water Basin Agency enabled the management of the situation in a controlled manner, and limiting its impact in the lower areas of the dam and on electricity production facilities. In this context, he stressed the importance of concerted efforts and unity of command, within the framework of the high royal directives, which contributed to overcoming this difficult circumstance and avoiding all potential repercussions on the region. Nizar Baraka also indicated that structural measures are being implemented, including the construction of the "Tafar" dam on the Loukkos River, with the aim of strengthening the ability to manage floods in the future.
