Expert analyses carried out by the National Forensics Laboratory in Casablanca have revealed that the suspect arrested in the city of Tangier on October 9th, suspected of preparing terrorist operations, has reached an advanced stage in the preparation of explosive materials.
A joint statement from the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance explained that the physical, chemical, and digital expert analyses included samples of chemical materials and electronic devices seized from the suspect, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations in coordination with the judicial police services in Tangier.
The analysis results showed the presence of materials used in the manufacture of explosives, including acetone peroxide, and other chemical materials used in preparing explosive charges, as well as equipment and electronic components that can be used in assembling circuits to remotely activate or time-detonate explosive devices.
Expert analyses also revealed the seizure of nails and screw heads that can be used as shrapnel in explosions, along with devices for measuring electric current and charging batteries, and a mobile phone that was modified by adding electronic circuits and electrical connections, allowing it to be used as a system for operating or activating explosives.
The analyses, according to the same source, have proven the presence of technical traces indicating that explosion experiments were conducted, in the context of the potential use of explosive materials in terrorist operations.
The suspect is 22 years old and is suspected of allegiance to the terrorist organization "ISIS". The arrest operation resulted in the seizure of manuscripts containing criminal methods related to cyber infiltration, as well as electronic devices, welding equipment, batteries, circuit breakers, and solid and liquid chemical materials used in preparing explosives.
These expert analyses were conducted as part of the criminal investigation being carried out by the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecution.
