A police inspector working at the Regional Police Commission in the city of Souk El Arbaa El Gharb was forced, on Tuesday evening, October 27, to use his service weapon in a security intervention to apprehend a person with a criminal record, who was the subject of a national arrest warrant for suspected involvement in a drug and psychotropic trafficking case.
A police patrol had intervened to apprehend the suspect. However, he violently resisted the security forces by using a bladed weapon, causing a chief police corporal to sustain injuries to his finger. This forced the police inspector to use his service weapon, firing three shots that hit the suspect in his lower extremities, neutralizing the threat he posed and leading to his arrest. The bladed weapon used in the assault was also seized.
Both the injured police officer and the arrested suspect were transported to the local hospital to receive necessary treatment. Meanwhile, the General Directorate of National Security tasked its health and social services to monitor the health condition of the injured policeman and provide him with the necessary care.
The suspect has been placed under medical surveillance at the hospital, pending judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecution. The investigation aims to uncover all the circumstances, details, and background surrounding this case, as well as to identify all criminal acts attributed to the individual.
