The regional judicial police service in the city of Berkane, in close coordination with the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance, managed on Friday morning to apprehend a taxi driver who was the subject of search warrants in connection with a premeditated murder case.
According to informed sources, the suspect had been a fugitive from justice since 2024 after committing a premeditated murder in the city of Saidia. An in absentia court ruling was issued against him, sentencing him to 20 years of effective imprisonment.
The same sources clarified that the precise field investigations and inquiries conducted by the security services, supported by intelligence information provided by the National Territorial Surveillance services, enabled the identification of the individual's whereabouts and his arrest in the city of Berkane, after repeated attempts by him to hide and escape.
The arrested individual has been placed under police custody as part of the investigation carried out by the competent public prosecution, in order to complete the legal procedures in force, in preparation for his referral to the relevant judicial authorities to implement the prison sentence issued against him.
