HIBAPRESS – Mohamed Zerouikh
The occupied enclaves of Sebta and Melilla have witnessed unusual security alert in the past few hours. The Spanish government has intensified its defensive and preventive measures along the border strip, following the monitoring of intense and coordinated calls on social media platforms urging attempts at mass border infiltration.
These disturbing digital calls coincide with the date of the legislative elections in the Kingdom of Morocco, a timing suspected of being exploited by irregular migration networks or parties seeking to divert security attention or create border crises pressuring both sides.
In a related context, Spanish authorities have dispatched additional human and logistical security reinforcements to the occupied cities, including extra elements from the Civil Guard and the National Police, in addition to enhancing the efficiency of technological systems such as thermal cameras and early warning devices.
On the other side, Moroccan authorities have not stood idly by. Security forces, Royal Gendarmerie services, and auxiliary forces have intensified their patrols and intensive monitoring in the areas and surroundings near the border fence, as part of joint bilateral coordination to control the borders and combat smuggling and illegal migration networks.
Despite the severity of these warnings and the declared state of alert, official Spanish sources confirmed that they are closely monitoring these calls and dealing with them with the utmost vigilance, clarifying at the same time that no actual mass infiltration attempt has been detected or registered to date.
The border situation remains under close and continuous 24-hour surveillance, awaiting the outcome of the coming hours, with a significant bet on the rigor of security coordination between Rabat and Madrid to thwart any potential attempts to destabilize the border region.
