Taxi drivers (class B) in Marrakech organized a protest stand-off in front of the Wilaya of the Marrakech-Safi region on January 11th Street on Thursday morning, October 8th. This protest was called for by four professional unions as part of what they termed a "Day of Rage," demanding improved conditions for workers in the sector and responses to several professional and social demands.
The protesters raised slogans calling for professional dignity, social justice, and fairness for taxi professionals, emphasizing their unified front to defend their demands, which they described as legitimate.
The most prominent demands raised by the unions include an increase in the meter and tourist fare, as well as expanding the operational area for small taxis by updating General Decree No. 864.
The protesters also demanded intensified efforts to combat clandestine transportation via applications, whether using cars or motorcycles, and to enable drivers to access operations through the registry, according to a reasonable and fair rental fee.
The demands also included simplifying administrative procedures related to the sector, particularly concerning technical inspections and the issue of losses following the transfer of the car office, as well as demanding the establishment of model stations for small taxis and improving the working conditions for professionals within these stations.
The participating unions affirmed that their unified action aims to convey the voice of the sector's professionals to the concerned authorities and to push for practical solutions to the problems they face.
During the stand-off, the protesters raised the slogan: "One voice… legitimate demands… and professional dignity that is not open to negotiation," emphasizing their commitment to coordination and joint action for what they described as the fairness of taxi professionals in Marrakech.
