United Airlines announces the launch of a first direct flight between Marrakech and New York

The airline United Airlines announced on Thursday the launch of new seasonal flights between Marrakech-Menara international airport and its main hub New York/Newark, with three weekly non-stop flights, which will begin on October 25, 2024.
Subject to the approval of government authorities, United Airlines will thus become the first and only airline to offer direct flights from Marrakech to the United States, the company indicates in a press release.
And to add that this flight will be operated by a United Airlines Boeing 767-300, equipped with a United PolarisSM Business Class cabin and a United Premium PlusSM cabin, with 46 United Polaris seats offering direct access to the aisle, 22 United Premium Plus seats for a more refined travel experience, and 99 economy seats, including 43 premium economy seats with extra legroom and greater personal space.
Quoted by the press release, Marcel Fuchs, director of international sales for United Airlines, said: “United continues to have the largest and most diverse transatlantic airline network, and we are pleased to announce this new additional expansion with new seasonal flights between Marrakech and New York/Newark”. “We are also proud to be the first and only airline to offer direct flights from Marrakech to the United States, allowing our customers in Morocco to enjoy convenient one-stop connections via our New York hub /Newark to 76 cities in the Americas,” he added.
For his part, the director general of the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), Adel El Fakir, stressed that this agreement “embodies our firm determination to promote the tourism industry in our country”, adding that this announcement is “historic for Morocco which becomes the first destination in North Africa to be served by one of the largest American airlines”.
“This link will help increase the number of tourists to Morocco from the American market,” he said, noting that in 2023, Morocco received 14.5 million international tourists, including 400,000 American tourists. “We hope this new route will expand our partnership with United Airlines and allow us to enter the US market on a larger scale.”
Furthermore, the company specifies that tickets for the new United Airlines flights to and from Marrakech will go on sale during the year 2024. The new Marrakech-New York route confirms “the leadership of United among U.S. airlines, as the largest transatlantic airline, serving directly to 39 transatlantic destinations, the largest number of destinations in its history and more than all other U.S. airlines combined,” the statement continued. .
The company will operate the largest number of flights to most destinations on the African continent from New York next winter. These new flights are expected to help expand United Airlines’ presence in Africa, building on its existing flights to Accra in Ghana, Lagos in Nigeria, as well as Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa.
