The United Arab Emirates, on Monday in New York, reiterated its support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco to reach a political solution within the framework of the kingdom's territorial integrity.
In an intervention before the Fourth Committee of the United Nations General Assembly, the UAE representative highlighted that his country "reiterates its full support for the brotherly Kingdom of Morocco in its sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara, and its support for the autonomy initiative within the framework of the Kingdom's territorial integrity." He pointed out, in this context, that the Moroccan autonomy plan is in line with international law, the UN Charter, and the resolutions of the Security Council and the UN General Assembly. The diplomat also praised the new development model for the southern regions launched by the Kingdom with the aim of improving the living conditions of the population of these regions, noting that this model has contributed to improving human development indicators in the region. On the other hand, the speaker reviewed the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy to the Moroccan Sahara, aimed at finding a lasting solution to this regional dispute.
