The Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament, the official government spokesperson, Mostafa Byitas, highlighted on Thursday that the protocol amending the Marrakesh Agreement establishing the World Trade Organization, the agreement on fisheries subsidies, established the rule of eliminating subsidies provided for illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.
Mr. Byitas added, during a press conference following the government council meeting, that this agreement also established the elimination of subsidies provided for fishing or activities related to fishing related to depleted stocks. He clarified that these efforts aim to maintain a sustainable biological level for the fish wealth that the marine waters provide, whether within the jurisdiction of the countries or members or outside it. The minister affirmed that achieving these goals is done in accordance with measures based on transparency and notification, to enable member states to implement their international obligations in this regard more effectively.
