The Criminal Chamber of the Marrakech Primary Court ruled this evening, Thursday, to convict an Algerian fan holding British citizenship, following his involvement in the crime of tearing up banknotes inside the Grand Stadium in Marrakech.
The chamber sentenced the Algerian fan to eight months in prison and a fine of 500 dirhams, after he was prosecuted by the Public Prosecution for the misdemeanor of intentionally destroying a national banknote, after he was observed tearing it up inside the stands of the Marrakech stadium during the match between his national team and Nigeria in the 2025 African Cup of Nations. Security elements in Casablanca had previously arrested the Algerian fan after he appeared in a video circulated on social media, along with other Algerian fans in the vicinity of the Marrakech stadium, as they were tearing up banknotes of the national currency.
