HIBAPRESS – Fez
A serious work accident has changed the course of the life of young Mehdi Mahda, from the city of Fez, after he suffered a severe hand injury inside a factory in the Ras El Ma area. He describes the accident as causing a permanent disability and the loss of his thumb, in addition to continuous health and social suffering, prompting him to appeal to King Mohammed VI and the competent authorities to intervene and look into his case.
Mehdi explained, in a statement to "HIBAPRESS", recounting the details of the incident, that he had been working at the factory since 2022 until June 3, 2025. On that date, he had an accident while working when his hand got caught in a powerful industrial press machine. He added that the accident caused severe damage and bone crushing to his hand, necessitating his transfer to a private clinic where he spent about 90 days under treatment and underwent four surgeries, one of which resulted in the amputation of his thumb.
The speaker added that he was working, according to his account, without an employment contract, before being surprised after leaving the clinic by statements made to the National Social Security Fund indicating that he had been registered as an employee for months in 2025, including months that coincided with his treatment period. This surprised him, especially since he had medical documents proving his duration of stay in the clinic, noting that he is demanding clarification of the circumstances of these statements and their related details.
Regarding the repercussions of the accident, Mehdi said that after his discharge from the clinic, his employer asked him to sign a waiver document in exchange for continued treatment coverage, which he refused, according to his statement. He added that he sought the help of a lawyer to follow up on his case, before recently receiving his documents from him, confirming that the case had not been referred to court, as it appeared to him.
In light of these developments, Mehdi appealed to King Mohammed VI and the competent authorities, including security services, to intervene and look into his case, emphasizing that his injury has greatly affected his life and his ability to bear responsibility for his family, especially with a child to support.
