The old city of Fez witnessed, this evening, Monday, a state of extreme alert following the collapse of a multi-story house, in an accident that caused a state of panic among the residents and required the immediate mobilization of various specialized services.
According to preliminary data, the collapse occurred suddenly inside one of the old neighborhoods of the Kasbah of Nouar, prompting local authorities and civil defense elements to intervene urgently, where the scene of the accident was cordoned off and search operations began under the rubble in anticipation of the presence of victims or people trapped.
Various security services and territorial authorities moved to the scene, which began coordinating rescue efforts, in addition to taking the necessary measures to ensure the safety of neighboring residents, especially in light of fears of potential additional collapses in neighboring buildings.
This incident comes to bring back to the forefront the problem of the fragility of buildings in the old city, which includes a large number of houses that are about to collapse, despite the efforts made within the framework of restoration and rehabilitation programs.
The accident caused great shock among the local residents, who expressed their concern about the recurrence of such incidents, demanding the acceleration of the pace of preventive interventions to protect lives and property.
