HIBAPRESS
The local Oudaya prison administration issued a clarifying statement in response to what was circulated regarding the conditions of detention within the institution and claims related to the absence of a specialist doctor and a shortage of essential supplies.
The administration of the institution affirmed that the circulated data does not reflect the real situation inside the prison, clarifying that despite the absence of a permanent general practitioner since November 28, 2025, following the resignation of a doctor and another doctor benefiting from a medium-term sick leave, the inmates benefit from regular health monitoring. This is done by presenting them to the head nurse, with the transfer of cases that require it to public hospitals. The statement added that the institution has, for about a month, benefited from periodic visits from a doctor from the local prison in Kalaat Es-Sraghna, in addition to taking care of simple cases by the neighborhood nurse, who provides the necessary treatments and medications according to the nature of each case. Regarding the prisoner referred to in the circulated data, the administration explained that he was admitted to the institution on February 1, 2026, where he stated that he did not suffer from any illness. He later benefited from medical examinations on February 7 and March 26, 2026, following complaints of toothache, where he was provided with appropriate treatments and medications. An appointment was also scheduled for him on April 15, 2026, with the dentist at the institution's clinic. Regarding what was circulated about the lack of essential supplies, the prison administration confirmed that the prisoner in question benefited from the introduction of clothing by his family on April 7, 2026, which included blankets and trousers. It also indicated the availability of sufficient underwear inside the institution's commissary, in various sizes and at reasonable prices, ensuring the health safety conditions of the inmates. The administration of the local Oudaya prison emphasized at the end of its statement that the conditions of the institution are subject to the standards in force, calling for accuracy in conveying the data related to the conditions of detention.
