HIBAPRESS – Rabat
Khalid Htimi's name stands out among those in the new government formation, as the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty, at a time when the Moroccan agricultural sector faces increasing challenges.
Htimi was nominated within the Authenticity and Modernity Party (PAM) in the 2021 legislative elections for the Southern Taroudant constituency, before becoming a Member of Parliament for the same constituency, and engaging in the legislative institution's work within the party's parliamentary group, then being elected to the party's Political Bureau.
He previously held the position of CEO of Atlas Bottling Company, affiliated with the Diana Holding group, which is active in the food and beverage industry.
Htimi's responsibility comes in a context that requires continued efforts to modernize the agricultural sector, enhance national production, and improve the working conditions of farmers, ensuring a balance between the demands of the domestic market and export potential.
The new minister faces important files, most notably supporting small and medium-sized farmers, developing production chains, strengthening the food industry, in addition to improving water resource management and coping with the effects of consecutive years of drought.
The issue of food sovereignty also emerges as one of the most prominent challenges, by strengthening national production and ensuring the stability of supply of essential goods, while working to mitigate the impact of climate and price fluctuations on farmers and consumers.
The primary challenge for Khalid Htimi is to translate agricultural orientations into practical measures that achieve tangible results, whether at the level of production, farmers' income, or ensuring food security, in a sector that is a fundamental pillar of the national economy and rural development.
