Madiha Khiyar, a Member of Parliament for the Istiqlal Party, is heading towards submitting her resignation from the House of Representatives in the next few hours, following a request from the party leadership.
This move comes days after a statement from the Royal Court, issued on Sunday, announced Khiyar's dismissal from her governmental duties, at the request of the Head of Government, and with the King's approval, in accordance with the provisions of Article 47 of the Constitution. The decision to dismiss followed a wide debate on social media and in the media, after the circulation of a document claimed to be a medical certificate attributed to a specialist in psychiatry and mental medicine, dating back to 2004, amidst the circulation of data regarding previous judicial files related to financial suspicions. Madiha Khiyar had topped the results of the legislative elections in the local constituency of Beni Mellal, after obtaining more than 21,000 votes, ahead by about 7,000 votes over her closest competitors.
