In the midst of preparations in the city of Fes to host part of the African Nations Cup competitions next December, the university transport file has resurfaced, following an official letter sent by the President of Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University to the Mayor of Fes, requesting additional buses for students, especially in light of the large congestion and the breakdown of part of the current fleet.
According to informed sources, the university president emphasized in his letter the need to "ensure decent and safe transportation for students," warning that the frequent breakdowns of buses lead to repeated stops on the roads, which causes traffic paralysis, and creates undesirable social tension as the date of the continental sporting event approaches. In contrast, the mayor did not understand, according to university sources, that the essence of the problem does not lie with the students, but rather in the fragility of the urban transport fleet, which makes the students the weakest link in the face of this shortage. The question remains today: what is the position of the wali of the region, Mr. Aït Taleb, on this situation? The available data indicates that the wali is following the file with interest, given its sensitivity and its coinciding with the city's preparations to host a large African audience, which requires, according to local officials, urgent and effective decisions to strengthen urban transport and ensure traffic flow within the city. It is expected that the coming days will witness coordination meetings between the wali, the university presidency, and the urban community, in order to find a consensual formula that guarantees the interests of students and meets the transport standards required for the pre-African Cup stage.
