The occupied city of Melilla announced the granting of an exceptional holiday to its public employees on Wednesday, October 14th, starting at 10 AM, coinciding with the anticipated visit of Spanish King Felipe VI and his wife, Queen Letizia.
A statement issued by the city explained that this decision aims to provide an opportunity for employees to participate in welcoming the King and Queen in the city streets, along with their families and friends, and to express feelings of welcome and affection towards the Spanish monarch and his wife.
In the same context, the authorities of occupied Melilla called on officials of the central state administration, as well as private companies and institutions, to engage in this initiative by allowing their employees to participate in activities related to this royal visit.
The city considered this occasion a significant milestone in Melilla's history, which will strengthen the existing ties between its residents and the Spanish Royal institution, describing the visit as an exceptional day expected to witness broad participation from citizens.
Local authorities recalled the previous royal visit by former Spanish King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia to Melilla on November 6, 2007, considering that the upcoming visit comes in the context of continuing to strengthen the relationship between the Royal institution and the residents of the city under Spanish administration.
